Origin of The Name Ruby & a Fable:

The Latin word “ruber,” meaning “red,” is where the term “ruby” comes from. People in love and people in positions of power have always liked it. This is because they see it as a stone with a lot of meaning. Furthermore, some ancient cultures have an intriguing story about the stone’s origin. People said that rubies grew on trees and that they began as white buds and turned into red rubies that were ready to be picked. Moreover, the Bible mentions Rubies, and some of the oldest cultures used and valued them.

Ruby Gemstone Hardness & Other Attributes:

Ruby is a solid stone. It has a hardness of 9.0 on the Mohs scale, which puts it right after the diamond and before moissanite (a diamond ranks perfect at 10.0 on the scale, and moissanite falls midway between diamonds and rubies). There are flaws in natural rubies, including color spoilings. Inclusion comprising rutile needles known as “Silk” is another imperfection. However, these flaws are a big part of determining if a ruby is real or simulated. Besides, most rubies today have been treated with heat in some way. Almost every ruby goes through some treatment, the most common of which is heat treatment. Skilled workers heat it before lapidaries cut the stone. Still, a few high-quality rubies haven’t been treated, and these naturally sell for a lot of money.
